Dark Spot Solutions with Sarah

Today, we are talking dark spots ! If you suffer from Melasma like me, or are struggling to keep an even, bright skin-tone, then this blog post is for you.

I am extremely sun sensitive and sunlight in general gives me dark pigmentation on my face, which can often lead to uneven and dirty-looking skin. Yuck! This occurs a lot for women after pregnancy, and there are many treatments are on the market to treat this- believe me, I have tried a lot !

Here are my top tips for how I keep bright, even and youthful skin. This is a weekly ritual that involves protection, masks and scrubs.

NEVER WITHOUT

SPF 50 ! You HAVE to wear sunscreen if you want to prevent your skin from ageing- girls, trust me. Even in the winter!

Now I know what you’ll say… SPF 50s tend to be quite thick, white or smelly... we’ve all been there! The miracle cream that I recently discovered is extremely light, all while giving you the sun protection you need: I cannot say enough great things about the Dr Dennis Gross Dark Spot Sun Defence. I add a drop of Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti Pollution Sunshine Drops for a beautiful glow. Mix both together and apply this last on top of your day cream. I use it all year, every day. Pretty religiously.

MASK

Twice per week, I use the MZ Skin Radiance and Renewal mask. It’s one of the best clarifying masks to boost bright skin. I always leave it on for longer to get an even better result. You really feel a difference when you wash it off, and who doesn’t love immediate results, right? This is a perfect mask to use before going out to an event, it makes your skin really glow and look clear.

Another mask I use that I have just discovered In South Korea is the Sulwhasso Snowise Brightening Exfoliation Mask. It’s a mixture between mask and exfoliation and it works wonders ! The brush is very useful to apply the quite sticky product to leave on for 5 minutes on wet skin.

SCRUB IT

Use a good scrub twice per week. I use the Smoothing Scrub from Pietro Simone. I’m a big believer in exfoliation as all your serums and creams penetrate so much better into clean skin. This is a quite strong scrub so really just leave it on for two minutes, then massage well and rinse off.

STILL SOME DARK SPOTS?

After the summer... Laser ! Laser treatments have been the most effective way to get rid of my spots that creams can’t take away. Though I must say that with the above I have seen an immense improvement. *Caution! You can only do it after the summer, but it takes literally 3 minutes with no downtime.* I have this treatment done at the Pietro Simone Spa in London and usually one to two treatments are sufficient for me but it’s really depending on your skin.

Hope this helps you on your journey to finding brighter skin, and looking forward to hearing your experiences using this weekly regime. I will get back to you with my daily skin routine in a separate blog.
